To convert data from ASCII format to MetaStock native (binary) format, you can use the Equis Downloader product which can be found on your MetaStock installation CD.

These instructions outline the steps you need to take to convert ASCII data (the data you download) into a format that MetaStock can read. MetaStock format is also used by other charting products such as OmniTrader and therefore these instructions are also applicable to customers using those products.

Pre-Setting

Before you start, you must ensure that your Historical Data has been properly copied to your computer and located at C:\ClubIEA\Data. Your should also copy the "User Manual" from CD for future reference.

You must also ensure that the following settings are in place before you start the Conversion Setting.

Conversion Setting

Step One

Install Equis Downloader. This can be found on your MetaStock installation CD. Normally, when you installed the MetaStock program, The Downloader will also be installed together.

Step Two

Download your data from Club IEA EOD Data Site (for subscribing members only) and store it all in a folder on your computer. We would recommend that you create a new folder - EOD Data on your desktop.  Using the Download section of our website you select the the date you would like to download:

When you click on the link for a given date the following form will appear and you should click on the 'Save Target As...' button to save the files at C:\Desktop\EOD Data.  you should always use the same folder for each download:

Step Three

Convert the data into MetaStock format using Downloader by selecting ‘Convert’ from the ‘Tools’ menu:

Fill in the details as shown below. Click the "Options" button:

Step Four

Select the Source or Destination Folders. Fill in the details accordingly as shown on the following screen.  When check the "Use today's date", your computer will show the "Last date" automatically:

The Destination tab should look like this (please ensure that the ‘Traverse destination folders checkbox is checked):

If you click on ‘OK’, you will be returned to the ‘Convert Securities’ form.

Step Five

When you click on ‘OK’, your ASCII data will be converted into MetaStock format.

A Conversion Report should appear at the end of conversion:

Click the close to exit.
